Fall coats are one of the best parts of autumn! Each year, I love adding a new one to my growing collection, and find that while fall coats are definitely needed to keep you warm, they’re also an easy way to update your look.
From plaid and fringe to cozy wool and detachable vests, I’ve rounded up a few of my top picks for fall coats. Whether you’re desperately in need of a new fall coat, or are like me, and have a mild obsession with investing in new ones as soon as the temperatures drop, I’ve got some excellent suggestions for your cool weather layering needs!
The A-Lyst for the Best Fall Coats
J.Crew Daphne Boiled Wool Topcoat
I purchased this same coat last fall in a beautiful camel hue and wore it repeatedly through the end of November! This year, J.Crew updated the style slightly and added a handful of new, gorgeous colors to the line-up. I instantly fell for this deep green color because it goes so beautifully with all of my fall-colored mustard, orange, cream, and brown sweaters and boots. On colder days, I love adding a vest underneath it for an extra layer of warmth. Similar in style, this other J.Crew topcoat also makes me swoon.
UNIQLO Melange Wool Hooded Coat
A hybrid coat and sweater, this hooded wool piece is perfect for sunny fall days spent exploring or taking advantage of one of the last al fresco lunches of the season. Undoubtedly, the best part of this coat is the hood — especially on a windy day when the temperatures begin to dip even further. I am a fan of this wine color, but all of the hues are equally as beautiful and versatile for fall! The bonus? A super budget-friendly price!
I am a sucker for plaid in the fall and I adore the large format pattern and color palette of this coat by Kensie. It’s heavy enough to add substantial warmth, and when you pair it with a fitted turtleneck, jeans, and over-the-knee boots, you’re ready for a fall day! If you’re big fan of plaid coats, too, I also love this one and this one!
BB Dakota Elementary Plaid Fringed Coat
When I wore this during our weekend trip to Stowe, Vermont, I received SO many compliments from people I passed on the street. Its beautiful colors of gray, navy, and orange paired with the super fun and eye-catching fringe make it the perfect fall coat! While this is definitely a more lightweight fall coat; if you wear it with a warmer sweater, it keeps you nice and warm. If you’re looking for a fall coat that stands out from the crowd, this should be your top pick.
Moncler Phemia Wool Blend Jacket
While anything Moncler is definitely a splurge, the quality and versatility of this brand are unparalleled. I adore so many things about this piece! From the ruffle hem to the removable inner vest, which can then be worn on its own, this coat will last season after season. On cooler days, the hooded vest adds the perfect buffer from the chill, while also dressing down the overall look of the coat; whereas, when it is removed, this jacket looks chic and even a bit dressy. There are so many options for this Moncler staple!
