As fall weather finally begins to settle in, one of my favorite ways to enjoy the crisp temperatures is by spending an evening cozying up near an outdoor fire. Living in the city isn’t exactly conducive to creating my own backyard bonfire (or roof top fire, in my case!), but luckily there are a handful of Boston restaurants and bars that have amazing outdoor fire pits! For the perfect date idea or group activity on chilly Boston evenings, there’s nothing better than enjoying a few cocktails and bites by a roaring fire.
Dress in layers and get ready to embrace fall in the city like never before!
The A-Lyst for Boston’s Best Outdoor Fire Pits
Aragosta, The Battery Wharf Hotel
With an outdoor patio located along the Boston Harbor and a special menu boasting “city campfire” essentials like s’mores and fondue, Aragosta’s fire pits are a great place to spend a chilly fall evening. If you want to add some nostalgia to your night, order the s’mores and relish in the sweet and simple delight of their chocolatey, sticky goodness. It’s almost like summer camp, but better…! 3 Battery Wharf, Boston, MA 02109
If you’re in the mood for a menu that boasts delicious Italian favorites paired with seafood, the patio and fire pits at Mare in the North End are where you should head. I love enjoying a pre-dinner cocktail by the fire and then ordering a few of my go-to dishes like the Grilled Octopus or Lobster Ravioli. The restaurant and its patio are located off a little pathway behind Hanover Street, so it truly feels like an escape from city life when you’re there! 3 Mechanic Street, Boston, MA 02113
After an afternoon spent shopping and scoring deals at Assembly Row in Somerville, head to the large outdoor patio at River Bar to sip craft cocktails by the fire. With a view of the Mystic River (I promise it’s not as scary as the movie makes it seem!), an eclectic menu, and tasty, warm libations like the Hot Buttered Cider, River Bar’s fireside lounge area is always at the top of my fall must-visit list! 661 Assembly Row, Somerville, MA 02145
The sister restaurant to the ever popular 75 Chestnut in Beacon Hill, 75 on Liberty Wharf is located in the bustling Seaport District and offers gorgeous waterside views. I love coming to the restaurant’s outdoor fire pits and imbibing in delicious martinis and fall menu favorites like the sweet and savory Pumpkin Ravioli. And, If you really want to get into the fall spirit and take advantage of all things pumpkin, you can even order a Pumpkin Martini! 220 Northern Avenue, Boston, MA 02210
One of the many reasons I adore venturing over the bridge to Cambridge is because of the amazing views of the Boston skyline. The patio at ArtBar, located in the Royal Sonesta Hotel, is perfectly situated alongside the Charles River and provides a stunning view of my beloved city. I enjoy spending a fall night by the restaurant’s fire pits indulging in one of their “camp fire skillet” specialties, such as Spinach and Artichoke Dip or Polenta Fries. The sight of dusk falling over Boston and the city beginning to glisten is simply beautiful. 40 Edwin Lane Boulevard, Cambridge, MA 02142
